Interview: Merryl Ansah, Nala in The Lion King

Merryl Ansah is currently playing Nala in the West End production of The Lion King at the Lyseum Theatre, a role she previously understudied in the show. 

Since its UK premiere in 1999, the London production of The Lion King has been seen by more than 18 million theatregoers and is the sixth longest-running West End musical of all time.

Merryl originally did an Accounting and Management degree before completing an MA at the Royal Academy of Music. 

Some of her theatre credits include Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (UK & Ireland Tour), Crazy for You (Chichester Festival Theatre) and A Christmas Carol (Old Vic). Merryl understudied Heather Duke in the original West End cast of Heathers at the Theatre Royal Haymarket before taking over the role full-time for the show’s first ever UK & Ireland tour. 

In this episode, Merryl discusses all-things The Lion King, venturing into theatre after doing an Accounting and Management degree as well as highlights from the shows she has been a part of so far in her career.
